My Top 7 Summer Destinations in America

Have you ever traveled in America? It’s summertime so it’s a great opportunity to visit many beautiful and exciting destinations.

I spent two unforgettable summers in New York when I was a uni student (Work & Travel program) and I absolutely loved it.

It was 10 years ago and I’ve been thinking a lot about New York lately. The reason is that the summer in New York City and New York state was one of my best ones and I have never written about my experience on this blog. Another reason is that I met a couple of 60 year young travelers and when I asked them about their favorite country to travel to, they replied United States. Especially the West coast of the US.

I decided to look more into the travel tips that I received from Marie and Lars. Their tips (Portland, Las Vegas, Zion National park and San Diego) look so amazing that I want to share them with you. I’m also sharing my tips for destinations and activities in case you are planning to travel this summer to America (NYC, Upstate New York and Boston).

My 7 TOP Summer Destination in America

New York City, New York

I love New York City. It’s my favorite city in the whole world and whenever I have a chance to go back, I do it. The reason why I love NYC is a multicultural atmosphere, vibrant streets, artistic people, cool parks and plenty of summer activities. My best tip for NYC is to buy a subway pass for several days and visit many different parts of Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. Ride all the way down to Coney Island and enjoy a day on a beach. Take the Staten Island ferry which is for free and say hi to the Statue of Liberty. Check NYC events calendar and discover many food or cultural events on the streets of the city that never sleeps.

New York City

Boston, Massachusetts

Boston is a more laid back version of New York City and to me it felt kind of European. My best memories are for Harvard university and the campus with many old buildings. I visited Boston with two friends and we rented bicycles and biked in the city center. We biked close to the waterfront and we enjoyed music events in many of the Boston’s parks, just chilling and eating lot of street food. (Photo credit: Sanwal Deen, unsplash.com)

Boston

Upstate New York

At the end of the first summer in New York I did a road trip with several friends. We rented a car and we traveled to Buffalo, to see the Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls were nice, but the best part of this road trip was camping at the lake Ontario. We had our own tents, and we rented a campsite directly at the late. I remember that when I woke up the next morning, the lake had a huge fog over it and it looked very mysterious. Later that day it was sunny again, so we had a great summer day on the beach. Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas is a place where I will travel to one day and that’s purely because I’m curious about how it feels like to be in Las Vegas. The city of casinos and crazy parties was recommended by many friends and also by Marie and Lars. They said “just for the experience”. I’m not sure if I will try to play in a casino, because I have no experience with it. I was doing a research about how to play roulette and I found out that there is an option to play mobile casino games, so I can theoretically try it before traveling to Las Vegas, on MobileCasino.co.nz. San Diego, California`

Californiaaaaa! I can’t wait to travel there. Everybody who I met from California was very friendly and laid back and that’s the type of people that I like. My eyes are spotted on San Diego, because of its climate and surfing possibilities. Another dream is to travel the U.S. Route 101, or U.S. Highway 101 (US 101). It is a north–south United States Numbered Highway that runs through the states of California, Oregon, and Washington, so it’s the best way to see the West coast. Portland, Oregon

Portland looks like one of the coolest cities in the world. It’s located in the beautiful state of Oregon which is just north of California. Portland is supposed to have a community of open-minded people who are very active in organizing lot of music, art or food events. I heard from friends that there are so many outdoor or cultural things to do in Portland that I can basically spend the whole summer there. (Photo credit: Abigail Keenan, unsplash.com)

Zion National Park, Utah

Utah seems to me like a mysterious state and until I met Marie and Lars I didn’t know much about this part of the US. They said that it’s a must to visit Utah if I like mountains and nature in general. I was so surprised when I started to google images from Utah and what attracted me the most is a place called the Zion National Park. This park is located in southwestern Utah in Washington, Iron and Kane counties. There is a trail that is called Kanarraville Falls Hike and that’s something that I added to my bucket list after meeting Marie and Lars. It is a water hike and the trail crosses Kanarra Creek many times and eventually enters a slot canyon and cannot be completed without getting wet. (Photo credit: Jacob Ufkes, unsplash.com)
