Photo essay: World cup in Mexico

World cup is here and my dear country – Slovakia – is not there this year. That was a sad story to begin with and now let’s get to the positive stuff 🙂 Who else could I support if not the country where I’m currently traveling? MEXICO! I’ve been here for a week now and I have to admit that I’m slowly and gently falling in love with this country. At least with Quintana Roo and Yucatan states that I managed to visit so far. People are very nice and friendly and that’s what I like.

Today was a very special day, because Mexico played in the world cup against Brazil. The plan was to watch the match in a restaurant with my travel buddy Coco, but I was a bit late because I went to the amazing “cenote” X-keken. The match has already started while I walked the streets of Valladolid in Yucatan. There were no people on the streets, I could just hear the TV sounds from almost every house. Walking with my camera in hand (it feels safe here), I got an idea. What about visiting different houses and taking photos of the locals watching football? I did it and I had one of the best, warmest and funniest travel/photo experiences ever. The best was “Francisco’s” house where Coco and I were invited for rum and coke, snacks and I fell in love. With the mexican goal-keeper Guillermo Ochoa. He saved the match and it ended with 0:0. I might wait in Mexico until he gets back home from Brazil. Although I hope that he’ll stay there until the final 🙂

Enjoy the photos of the locals and their households in Valladolid.

  1. Such wonderful photos, they almost tell a story in by themselves–very atmospheric. I visited Mexico, but never had the opportunity to see it like you did. Mostly did the spring break and family visit (with parents) kind of thing. Seeing it through the lens of your camera really encourages me to go…

Thank you for taking the time to share these beautiful moments.
