sLOV(E)akia road trip
After years of living abroad and traveling in South America, I had a need to travel in my own country – Slovakia! I combined everything: I visited my grandparents in Chynorany (west) and Snina (east), I hiked in High Tatras, I visited Banská Štiavnica (town protected by UNESCO) and also I found a spot where Slovakia, Austria and Hungary meet, which was very interesting for my Australian friend who was visiting – they don’t have this luxury 🙂
I don’t want to write too much, I will let my photos speak, but I just want to say that I fell in love with Slovakia again. I think that it is a beautiful country and not because it’s my home. We have many beautiful landscapes, traditions that we preserve and people who are nice, especially in the mountains hehe.
I’m happy that I made it to Slovakia “as a tourist” and I can’t wait to hike in High Tatras again. You’re welcome to visit too 🙂
Photo story:
Bratislava is more and more cool 🙂
Sunflower fields close to Topoľčany
Typical snacks: blueberry pie, pagáč (something like bread), buchta (sweet dumpling)
I love this time of the year
Our pride: Spišský hrad – Spis castle, built in the 12th century
This is east! Hike to Snisky kamen/Rock of Snina. You can see “Morske oko” lake behind me and also Ukraine!
Fish in Morske oko, the cleanest lake I’ve ever seen.
My froggie – “ropucha” from Snina
Surprise, surprise! Alexandra Kováčová, travel blogger also known as the Crazy Sexy Fun Traveler is also from Snina. We did a little photo shoot on the copy of the Rock of Snina 🙂 check her blog: http://www.crazysexyfuntraveler.com
Levoča is a town with the highest wooden altar in World, carved by Master Paul of Levoča, and many other Renaissance buildings.
And here we go! Have a taste of our most traditional dish: Bryndzove halusky (potato dumplings with bryndza (sheep cheese) and bacon)
Slovak mountains – High Tatras
Hike to Tery’s hut – amazing!
Mala studená dolina – Little cold valley
Yes! We made it to Tery’s hut and a reward was needed – my favorite Slovak cookie: Horalka!
